Diagnosing nervous system conditions
Detailed images are often the key to accurately screening and treating brain and nervous system conditions. Our advanced diagnostic tests include:
- Computerized tomography (CT) scan
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
- Neurosurgical ultrasound
EEG
An EEG is a test that uses sensors to evaluate electrical brain activity and can help our neurologists diagnose a variety of disorders, including headaches, strokes and dementia. We can also use EEGs to determine the causes of psychiatric symptoms and disabilities in children.
During an EEG, your technician will place electrodes in various places on your scalp to record activity in different regions of the brain. An EEG is painless and usually takes about 60 minutes.
Appointments for electroencephalography are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please call (603) 421-2240.
Stroke care
If a stroke is suspected, our Certified Pulmonary Stroke Center can provide immediate, potentially lifesaving care. After stabilization, we offer access to a range of recovery services, as well as state-of-the-art treatment options through a partnership with Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
If a more advanced procedure is needed, we can refer you to a experienced neurosurgeon through Portsmouth Regional. When you return to us, we’ll continue to monitor your progress and communicate with your primary care provider.
Neurological rehabilitation
Following a stroke or other neurological event, rehabilitation is an important part of returning to your daily activities. We support this step of your recovery with physical and speech therapy services designed to help you regain function.
